Citizens of Ashland are fortunate to have those who seek to govern as mayor and council members. Our choice of mayor is a very important one, for we face serious issues.
One issue is that of continuing the quality of life that draws us to Ashland with limited funds. The two candidates differ markedly on how each chose to handle campaign expenses. Julie Akins chose to not limit herself to the suggested maximum of $3,875, and has received over $12,000 in cash contributions, with 7 contributions of $1,000 or more.
Tonya Graham has chosen to limit her donations to the suggested limit of $3,875, even limiting her maximum contribution per individual to $100. I find in Graham’s approach the acceptance of limited finances — the very quality that will be necessary in our political leadership moving forward.
